Beginner - Dancers who train 2-5 hours per week and have little to no competition experience.
-Recommended for Mini, Petite, and Junior age divisions.
Intermediate - Dancers who train 5-6 hours per week and have competition experience.
-Recommended for Junior, Teen, and Senior age divisions.
Advanced - Dancers who train 7+ hours per week and have substantial competition experience.
-Recommended for Teen, Senior, and Adult age divisions.
*NOTE - The studio director and/or choreographer should use their discretion when determining performance level. Years of dance experience, skill level of dancer, and competition experience are some factors to consider.
Solo - 2:45min
-Allowed 1 min to set-up props and 1 min to remove props.
Duos / Trios - Duos and Trios compete against each other / 2:45min
-Allowed 1 min to set-up props and 1 min to remove props.
Small Group - 4-9 dancers / 3:00min
-Allowed 1 min to set-up props and 1 min to remove props.
Large Group -10 - 19 dancers / 3:30min
-Allowed 1 min to set-up props and 1 min to remove props.
Line - 20+ dancers / 4:00min
-Allowed 2 min to set-up props and 2 min to remove props.
Production - 15+ dancers w/ large props / 6:00min
-Allowed 3 min to set-up props and 3 min to remove props.
*NOTE - Performances may be subject to point deductions if prop
set-up and removal exceeds the allotted time limits.
Mini - 5 & under
Petite - 6 - 9 years old
Junior - 10 - 12 years old

*Age divisions are determined by dancers age as of January 1, 2023.
*Duos/Trios, Groups, Lines, and Production - Add all dancer ages together and divide by number of dancers in performance (drop the decimal) to determine age division.
Acro - Dance technique and choreography that contain multiple tumbling/acrobatic passes.
Ballet - Classical ballet technique. No pointe shoes allowed in this category.
Contemporary - Hybrid of ballet, lyrical, and jazz incorporating modern technique.
Folkloric - Choreography using ethnic/cultural style of dance.
Hip Hop - Fusion of street dance, breaking, popping & locking, and other styles.
Jazz - Traditional jazz technique including leaps and turns.
Jazz Funk - Jazz technique with elements of hip hop.
Lyrical - Combination of jazz and ballet that embodies the raw expression of the lyrics.
Musical Theater - Broadway or theme based style dancing.
Open - A routine containing a combination of two or more any listed categories.
Pointe - Classical ballet performed on pointe. No acrobatics allowed.
Tap - Classic tap technique. No pre-recorded tap sounds in music track.
* Acro Tricks include - Tinsica, front and back handspring, layout, brandi, back tuck, chin stand, aerial.
*Routines are limited up to 3 acrobatic passes, unless competing in the Acro or Production category.
*Acro and Production routines have unlimited tumbling passes and tricks.
*Lip syncing is permitted in all categories.
Title Solo (Mr. and Ms. RUSH)- Dancer may only enter using one solo. This award is only open to intermediate and advanced level soloist.
Photogenic - Submit a high resolution 8x10 photograph of dancer. This can be a headshot or action shot. Please include dancer's name, age, studio, and photographer's name on the back of the photo.
-Photo needs to be submitted at our concierge desk at the start of your studio's competition day.
-Award will be presented during the top overall ceremony.
Three judges will score routines on a 100 point scale per judge. Scoring is final.
Technique - 40
Execution - 20
Choreography & Presentation - 20
Difficulty - 10
Costume & Age Appropriateness - 10
*NOTE - A penalty of up to 5 points may be deducted for inappropriate costume, vulgar song lyrics, and inappropriate dance moves.

Platinum: 275-300
Gold: 250-274
Silver: 225-249
Bronze : 200-224
INTERMEDIATE
Platinum: 270-300
Gold: 255-269
Silver: 230-254
Bronze: 200-229
BEGINNER
Platinum: 265-300
Gold: 250-264
Silver: 235-249
Bronze: 200-234
*This year at Rush Dance Competition the adjudicators' comments will be collected by Video Judge®. Each studio will receive a secure log in to Video Judge® online where they can watch the performances along with the adjudicators' comments. -Props may not exceed 15' in height and must be freestanding. Props may not be attached to the backdrop or any stage rigging.
-Prohibited props include, but are not limited to: Fire, weapons, strobe lights, animals, wet paints, aerosols, gels, liquids, glitter, chalks, dry ice, or any substance that may damage the marley floor, backdrop, or stage wings. Studio owner will be responsible for replacement for any damage to the marley floor, backdrop, or stage wings.
-Props that require power are limited to a standard 110/15amp outlet. RUSH Dance Competition will not provide extension cords. Although outlets are not guaranteed at the venue, RUSH Dance Competition will do our best to make sure that information is available to you before the competition. Contact us if you have a prop that requires power.
-Props must be stored in designated storage areas. Props cannot be stored backstage. Props must be removed from the storage area the same day they are used as to allow other studios room to store their props.
Payments -Studio owners/directors will need to log in to their account for registration and payments.
-Payment is required 30 days before competition start date. Failure to do so may result in studio being removed from competition.
-Discounts are provided for early bird registration.
-Entries are on a first come first serve basis.
Refunds - No refunds will be issued after a closed event registration, unless an event is postponed or cancelled.
- Refunds may be issued for medical emergencies or a Covid-19 diagnosis with receipt of a
doctor's note.
-RUSH Dance Competition prides itself on being a family friendly event. We will do everything in power to make sure your experience at our events is top notch. We ask that those participating in or attending an event be on your best behavior. There will be absolutely no photography or video allowed in the dressing rooms at any time. Vulgar language, inappropriate behavior, obscene gestures, and the like will not be tolerated or permitted. Point deductions and disqualification may result if participants or attendees fail to adhere to this policy. The event director will have final say if a violation occurs. Please remember we are here to support each other and recognize the hard work each and every dancer puts in to their craft.
-Participants acknowledge and accept the inherent risks/dangers of dancing, to include, but not limited to: broken bones, torn muscles, pulled muscles, sprains, dislocations, bruises, etc. By participating in an event, RUSH Dance Competition and it's employees will not be held liable for injuries sustained or illnesses contracted.
-All participants and attendees will adhere to current state Covid-19 safety guidelines, if applicable at the time of an event. If so, temperature checks will be conducted at the check-in. Anyone with a fever above 100.4F or displaying flu like symptoms will not be allowed to participate or attend. Limited capacity for spectators may be instituted depending on venue size and spacing. A "studio block" may instituted at an event as to limit the interaction between studios attending. Cleaning/sanitizing will be conducted frequently throughout the event.
